Born July 12, 1923 in Afton, Agnes was the daughter of Charles Monroe and Deddie (Mullinix) Johnson. She grew up in the Afton area on a hay farm as the youngest of twelve siblings. Agnes graduated from Afton High School with the Class of 1941. She met Floyd E. Hays while working as a cashier at the local grocery store where Floyd was the milk delivery driver. The couple married in 1944 in Vinita.
Agnes was a wonderful wife and mother, staying at home while raising their children. She later pursued a career in the cafeterias of Claremore Public Schools where she worked as a cook for over twenty years. Agnes was an excellent cook, seamstress, and loved to travel. She travelled to Hawaii four-teen times, enjoyed numerous cruises, and once made a trip to Israel.
Faith was always a very important part of Agnes' life. She was a longtime member of Northpark Trinity Baptist Church where she taught Bible school and Sunday school. Agnes was a woman of tradition, especially around the holidays. She would regularly read the story of Jesus to her children and grandchildren, never losing sight of the true meaning of the season.
Surviving family members include her children: Ken Hays and his wife, Linda, of Claremore; Jim Hays; Steve Hays and his wife, Heidi; Nancy Hays Hinch and her husband Paul, all of Tulsa; eight grandchildren: Kerri (Jeff) Brant, Bryan Hays, Steven Hays, Sherri Hays (Sebastien Ledoux), Chandra Anderson, Bailey Ryan, Harrison Hays , and Hunter Hays; her greatgrandchildren include: Nikk Chuculate, Falon Brant, Ethan Hays, Evan Hays, Hays Ledoux, and Oliver Ledoux; and her great granddaughter, Payton Chuculate.
