Text size

Brenda Joy Case, 70, of Beulah, passed away on Dec. 6, 2017 at her residence. She was born to the late Harold Norman Deering and June Joy Deering on Dec. 28, 1946.
She was a resident of Benzie County her entire life. She attended Benzie County Central Schools before attending Central Michigan University, where she received a degree in education.
She began her career in education in Utica before moving back to Beulah to assume a teaching position with Benzie Central Schools, where she taught English.
Brenda married her husband of 44 years, Leonard Case Jr., on June 10, 1972. They were married in the Benzonia Congregational Church UCC, where the Case family have been members since the church began in 1860. In 1976 a son, Andrew James Case, was born and in 1980, a daughter, Amanda Joy Case.
She left her teaching position in 1975 to help her husband run his business, The Cherry Hut Restaurant in Beulah. She helped bring the restaurant into the "modern" era with an updated decor and a menu with more well rounded food choices. Brenda focused much effort into the training of the service staff which is still reflected in its standards today. She worked at the Cherry Hut until her illness wouldn't allow it any longer.
Brenda loved watching the seasons change while at her home on Crystal Lake. It was very important to her that her house was decorated to reflect the holidays and the beauty of Northern Michigan. She was an avid world traveler and together with her husband had the opportunity to visit China, Russia and Egypt, among many other places. Brenda kept the local libraries busy with her unending desire to find the best mystery novel.
She had a big heart and thoughtful mind which she used for the betterment of countless family members, friends and acquaintances. Brenda was the perfect hostess and loved planning small gatherings. However, most important to her was always her family. She loved to entertain and made all family events special. She especially enjoyed spending time with her three grandsons who were her pride and joy.
Brenda is survived by her son, Andrew (Christy) Case; daughter, Amanda (Ashley) Williford; and grandchildren, Carson Leonard Case, Caleb James Case and Zachariah Wray Williford. She is also survived by her brothers, Norman (Barb) Deering and Edwin Deering; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and June Deering; and husband, Leonard Case Jr.
The memorial will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 at the Benzonia Congregational Church UCC. The Rev. Patty Higgins will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Congregational Church of Benzonia, PO Box 234, Benzonia, MI 49616.
