Calvin M. Bromley, 95, of Leonard Avenue, passed away, Feb. 10, 2018 at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility.
He was born on June 1, 1922, the son of Martin and Alice (Randall) Bromley.
Calvin married the former Laura "Betty" Lombard at her home in Beekmantown on August 13, 1944. Betty predeceased him on December 4, 2007.
As a young man beginning a family, Calvin began working alongside his father at the growing family business. After his father's passing in 1963, Calvin continued to operate Bromley's Body and Fender Shop in West Chazy until his retirement in 1996. Throughout his 40-year career, Calvin worked tirelessly to develop his skills, learn about the modern automobile, and expand his facility. He became a trusted businessman in the Plattsburgh area.
When he was not working and during retirement, Calvin enjoyed spending time at the lakeside Bromley Camp where he thought about fishing while he mowed the large lawn and puttered on the camps. He took great pride in the property and enjoyed hosting large family picnics as his family grew.
In 1960, Calvin and Betty joined the Church of the Nazarene in Plattsburgh, and he became very involved with the church. He served on various boards and committees, and volunteered his time to various projects and activities. For several years, he served alongside Betty in the church nursery and welcomed many new families with young children. He became affectionately known as Grandpa to many of these children and their parents.
His remaining family include three children and their spouses, Susan and Francis Patnode of Plattsburgh, Bonita and Richard Atwood of West Chazy, and Mark and Margretta Bromley of Spofford, N.H.; a brother-in-law, James (Carol) Lombard of Cadyville; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson born in 2017; and several nieces and nephews.
Calvin was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years; and two sisters, Doris Anderson and Lucy Montague, who passed away in late 2017.
