Carole's Story

81, of Pottsville, formerly of Windber, Pa., passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 in Schuylkill Center after fighting Alzheimer's Disease. Born on May 23, 1936 in Windber, she was the daughter of the late Grant and Letha Etter Naugle. Carole grew up in Windber, Pa, but moved frequently when her husband changed jobs, to Pittsburgh, Beaver Falls, Charleroi, Dauphin, Wheeling, W.V, Epsom, N.H. and Bloomsburg. She earned an Associate Degree from Bloomsburg University in her 50's and started a career as a Nursing Home Admninstrator that took her to Washington, Pa. and State College. She retired to Schuylkill County. Carole's favorite activities included raising her children, reading, sewing/handcrafting, and performing in local musical events. She always loved being in the community and volunteered as an elementary school class aide, Girl Scout troop leader, Nursing Home Ombudsman via PEER, adult reading tutor, and she was one of the founders of a fire station in rural West Virginia in the 1970's. Additionally, she was very involved with the churches where she was a member, locally, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pine Grove and Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven. She assisted with the service/communion, serving on committees/boards, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She is predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen (Naugle) and Paul Henger of Windber and step father William Essick Sr. of Highspire.
Carole is survived by her former husband Larry and wife Virginia (Milley) of Allentown; a daughter Lauranne of Concord, NH; two sons, Darryl and wife Monica (Tully) and Eric and companion Lisa Elliott of Cressona. A Memorial Service celebrating Carole's life was held on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 222 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove with SALM John Ziegler officiating. A scattering of the ashes ceremony will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations in Carole's name may be made to the Pottsville Public Library (www.pottsvillelibrary.org) or the Alzheimers Association (www.alz.org)
