Darwin Duane Lagerquist, 83, of Kaleva, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at home with his family by his side. He was born Oct. 20, 1934, in Maple Grove Township, the son of Reino and Hilda (Kaudy) Lagerquist.
Darwin was a veteran of the United States Army. Following his service to his country, he worked various jobs before going to work for the Manistee County Road Commission as a truck driver; Darwin held this "dream job" for 24 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, and he was a diehard Detroit Tigers fan. He was a member of the Spirit of the Wood Conservation Club and the Arcadia Country Club. Darwin enjoyed bowling and had many fond memories of Thursday night league with his brothers and friends. Darwin treasured his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was a people-person who loved to be in the company of his friends. He will be remembered for his strong will, quick wit, and kind heart.
Darwin is survived by: his children, Connie (Michael) Marzinski, of Manistee, Lorraine Lynch, of Kaleva, Dixie (David) Hoeh, of Kaleva, and Jeffrey (Laura) Lagerquist, of Findlay, Ohio; his grandchildren, Larry (Pamela) Lynch, of Ludington, Erica Lynch, of Atlanta, Georgia, Kendra (Chad) Conroy, of St. Clair Shores, Justin (Stephanie) Marzinski, of Lansing, Nick Lagerquist, of Findlay, Ohio, Ryan Lagerquist, of Findlay, Ohio, Matt Lagerquist, of Findlay, Ohio, and Jessica Lagerquist, of Findlay, Ohio; his great-grandchildren, Reese Lynch, Charlotte Conroy, and Bennett Lynch; his siblings, Marvin (Iola) Lagerquist, of Brethren, Don (Pat) Lagerquist, of Wellston, Bob (Gail) Lagerquist, of Brethren, Gene (Kathy) Lagerquist, of Brethren, Marilyn Schuelke, of Brethren, Beverly Howes, of Empire and Carolyn Ruth Carey, of Brethren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
On April 12, 1958, in Manistee, Darwin married Angeline "Angie" Elizabeth Bahr who preceded him in death on May 17, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home, in Kaleva, with the Reverend Pablo Martinez officiating. Interment will take place in the Maple Grove Township Cemetery in Kaleva. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at the funeral home.
