LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio There will be services held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for David D. Benigas, 72 of Liberty Township, who passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Heritage Manor.
David was born Dec.18, 1945, in New Castle, Pa., a son of Patsy and Donnetta Santillo Benigas.
He graduated from New Castle High School in 1963 and later graduated from American University in 1979 with an Associate Degree in Justice and in 1984 a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice.
David moved to Washington, D.C., and was sworn in as a Police Officer on Aug. 31, 1970. Twenty of the 25 years he was a Detective and was promoted to Detective Grade I in 1993.
David and his wife Jennie moved back to Youngstown, Ohio, after his retirement. In 1996, he became the Director of Training at the MTC Training Academy, and from 2000 to 2011 he was a Detective for the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department.
He was a member of First Christian Assembly of Youngstown.
His wife of 27 years the former Jennie A. Schifferle, whom he married in June 21, 1990, passed away March 10, 2016.
He will be sadly missed by his sister, Patty (Don) Adams of Liberty Township; many nieces and nephews; and stepdaughter, Tara Kallstrom.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; his brother, Bennett Benigas; and sisters, Betty Smith and Naomi Campbell.
There will be calling hours on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home, 407 W. Liberty St., Hubbard, Ohio 44425.
David will be laid to rest at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
