Earl's Story

MIDDLETON - Mr. Earl F. Jones Jr. 81, of Middleton, beloved husband of Janet A. (Crosby) Jones, died January 11, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Earl F. Sr. and Evelyn (Philbrick) Jones. He was raised and educated in Middleton and attended Danvers High School.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the end of the Korean conflict and after aboard the U.S.S. Boston. He was very proud of his service to his country and became a member of the American Legion Post 227 in Middleton.
Mr. Jones had been employed as a rural Carrier with the United States Postal Service for over 30 years from the Town of Middleton Post Office until the time of his retirement.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, family was paramount to him. He and his beloved wife were avid campers and enjoyed visiting National Parks in their small Teardrop Tab. They formed life-long friendships at rallies throughout the country bringing great joy to their life. Earl was a man of simple pleasures. Whether he was gardening, making home improvements, or fixing up his old boat, you always could count on seeing a smile on his face.
Earl was overjoyed to be a grandfather and great grandfather. He relished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be forever remembered for his love of family.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janet A. (Crosby) Jones of Middleton, his children, Eric Jones and his wife Silvana of Nashua, N.H., Lori Labrie and her husband Stephen of Salem, and Linda Porter and her husband, Allan of Kittery, Maine, his nine beloved grandchildren and eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his cousin Leo Jones and his wife Diane. He is also survived by a special brother by marriage, Roger and his wife Irene, who were part of many treasured vacations. Earl "Bumpy" Jones will be deeply missed.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Middleton Congregational Church, Maple St., Middleton, Tuesday Jan. 16th at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte. 62) Danvers, Monday, Jan. 15th from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made be in Earl's memory to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th St. 8th, New York, New York 10022 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
