Eugene's Story

Eugene A. Castello, Sr., 88, of Methuen passed away peacefully Saturday, December 2, 2017 at his home. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Josephine (Genaro) Castello.
Gene was raised and educated in Lynn during the depression. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, a student at NYU Electronics School, and a graduate of Northeastern Business School. He served in the US Airforce in Korea as a staff sergeant. During the Korean War, he flew countless missions documenting enemy locations. He worked for CBS and for a short time on the Captain Kangaroo shown in NYC. He retired from Sylvania in Danvers after forty years with fourteen patents in his name. Gene was one of the grandfather inventors of the light emitting diode in 1972 and the compact fluorescent. He enjoyed photography and boating spending time with his family.
Gene was predeceased by his sister, Rita Moschella.
Eugene is survived by his children, Pamela Belanger and her husband, Mark of Exeter, N.H., Eugene Castello, Jr. and his wife, Marialucia of Methuen, and Tina Upton and her husband, Timothy of Hopkinton, N.H. He also leaves seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.
