Mrs. Evelyn Irene Lingafelter, age 101, of Terre Haute and formerly of Hutsonville, Ill., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at 9 a.m. at her residence in Westminster Village, Terre Haute. Born Feb. 17, 1916, in Annapolis, Ill., she was the daughter of William H. and Flora Belle (Tyhust) Wolfe. On June 6, 1942, she married Glain W. Lingafelter who preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2013.
Irene began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Sullivan, Ill. She took time off to raise her family, then returned to teaching in 1962. She later retired in 1976. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hutsonville, Crawford County Retired Teachers Association; lifetime member of the National Teachers' Association; and the United Methodist Temple in Terre Haute.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, the Rev. Sandra S. and Brian Huber, Lewis Center, Ohio, Alice Jane and Phillip Stephens, Batesville; five grandchildren, Clayton Huber, Tipp City, Ohio, Justin Huber, Hedgesville, W.Va., Robert and Emily Huber, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Joseph and Tisha Stephens, Louisville, Ky., Gavin and Amy Stephens, Indianapolis; seven great-grandchildren, Addison Huber, Benjamin Huber, Harper Stephens, Lauren Huber, Story Stephens, Evelyn Stephens, Alice Kathleen Stephens; and a sister, Lois Gene Olson, Sacramento, Calif.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Glain Lingafelter; sister, Mildred Myers; and foster sister, Mary Ethel Thompson.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, (which would have been Irene's 102nd birthday) at 2 p.m. central standard time at Pulliam Funeral Home, Hutsonville, Ill., with the Rev. Sandra Huber officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. central standard time. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, rural Annapolis, Ill.
