Gary Wayne Reed, 62, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Born April 24, 1955, on Bingham Mountain, Charmco, he was the son of the late Bill and Geraldine Morris Reed.
Gary served for 33 years in law enforcement. He served as Chief of Police for the city of Mt. Hope; as a deputy for Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department; and as a Fayette County Deputy in the Sheriff's department for many years. Gary was a member of the Meadow Bridge United Methodist Church where he had served as lay speaker and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Billy Van Reed.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 35 years, Juanita Alley Reed; his son Gary Wayne Reed Jr. of Meadow Bridge; his daughter Crystal Reed and Alfonso Leftwich of Hinton; his sister Donna Reed of Hines; his nephew Jason Sloan and wife Christi and their children Casey and Zach of Charmco; his niece Ada Yates and her daughter Afton of Lewisburg; his 3 beloved grandchildren A.J., Max, and Callie Leftwich; a host of extended family and friends; and his cherished pets.
Services will be Sunday, January 14, in the Meadow Bridge United Methodist Church with Pastor Robby Shorter officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.
Friends may call 2 hours before the service from 12 - 2 p.m. at the church.
