George's Story

George Stanley Shaffer, 86, of Northumberland, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at the Mansion Nursing Home, Sunbury.
He was born Oct. 10, 1931, in Williamsport, a son of the late Russel and Bessie (Snyder) Shaffer.
George was raised on the family farm in Freeburg. He served in the Air Force in Japan during the Korean War and was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
He was employed by TRW, Danville.
George was a member of Masonic bodies in Sunbury, and Selinsgrove where he was Past Master and a 60-year member.
He was well known for his love of antiques. Many people saw George going to sales around the valley to pick up his treasures. He was pictured many times in the Daily Item with the quilts that he made.

He was married to his former wife, Florine Folk Haas for 16 years. They built the family home in Point Township that he was so proud of and where they raised their three children, Deb Shaffer and Keith Shaffer both of Northumberland, and Kim Shaffer Eister and husband, Dale, of Sunbury; grandchildren, Tika Koch Slack and husband Brad, and Tarina Koch of Northumberland, Ryan Shaffer, Jacob Eister and stepgranddaughter, Diana Eister, all of Sunbury; great-grandchildren, Madison and Matthew Shaffer, and Channing and Cameron Slack who loved to visit old PaPa at his residence and pick up pine cones and ride on his lawn mower. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Marie and George Rice, of Selinsgrove; and one brother and sister-in-law, John E. and Elsie Shaffer, of McClure.

Friends and family will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, with Lafayette Lodge 194 conducting a memorial service at 2, followed by military honors with V.F.W. Post 6631 and American Legion Post 25, both of Selinsgrove.
Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Freeburg.
