Geraldine Marie (Bowker) Heilman, 96, died peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at RiverWoods Nursing Home Center in Lewisburg, where she resided since 2001.
She was born June 22, 1921, in Cortland, N.Y., the daughter of the late Howard and Dorothy (McKinney) Bowker.
Geraldine was a Lieutenant Junior Grade in W.A.V.E.S. (Women Available for Volunteer Emergency Service) of the Navy during World War II.
She was married to her husband of 70 years, Rev. Gerald G. Heilman at Calvary Evangelical Church on June 8, 1946, in Mattydale N.Y. He preceded her in death Jan. 23, 2017. The couple lived and faithfully served in churches in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, West Milton, Pa., Middlesex Pa., Baltimore Md., Williamsport Pa., Altoona Pa., and Lewisburg.
She was active in children's work and missions at her church, and belonged to many community organizations. Her hobbies included knitting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and meetings. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time at Central Oak Heights in West Milton.
She is survived by three daughters, Suzanne K. and Elizabeth Dincher (William), both of Williamsport, and Rebecca Heffner (Dale), of Alburtis Pa.; two sons, Peter S. (Nancy), of Williamsport, and Paul D., of Sunbury/West Milton; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Therre; and one brother, Paul; five nieces, and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, George.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a celebration of Geraldine's life at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Pastor John Lee officiating assisted by Pastor Daniel Wilt. There will be a time of reflection and fellowship with the family at a luncheon at the church immediately following the service.
The family will provide flowers.
