SHELBURN - Jackie Dean Harris, 76, of Shelburn, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Cobblestone Nursing Home. He was born on Jan. 26, 1942, in Richmond, the son of Lee and Anna (Pennington) Harris.
Jack graduated from Valley High School in West Terre Haute, the class of 1960. He retired as a chief warrant officer after 20 years with the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command. He was a member of the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2459, Shelburn American Legion Post 197 and Sullivan Elks 911. Jack was a former commander and former financial officer for the Shelburn Legion Post 197. He enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren, his dog, Petey, and with his friends at the clubs where he was a member.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nikki Downs Harris; daughter, Melissa Harris; brother, James Harris; and two sisters, Barbara Jackson and Ann Elliott.
Survivors include daughter, Jayne-Anne (Bill) Dixon of Adams, Tenn.; four grandchildren; Courtney Harris (Ryan Voigtman), Brittney Orman, Kara Dixon and Colter Dixon, two great-grandchildren; Marshall and Olivia Voigtman, loving companion of 22 years, Sharon Higginbotham and her sons; Curt (Lori) Higginbotham and Michael (Ivy) Higginbotham; and her grandchildren, Katie, Jake, Lilly and Gunner.
Celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb.17, 2018, at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Longs Chapel Cemetery in Sullivan County, with a graveside military service by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera legion posts and Sullivan county VFW Post. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb.17, 2018, at Brust Funeral Home.
