James H. Coon, 77, of Keeseville, N.Y., born on Nov. 26, 1940, passed away peacefully at his winter home in Crystal River, Fla., on Jan. 10, 2018, with his loving family by his side. After growing up on his family farm in Cumberland Head, N.Y., with his three sisters, in 1958 Jim met the love of his life, Gail (Bechard) Coon and married on Jan. 3, 1959. They completed their family with three children, Karen, Ricky and Jeff. Over the years Jim worked many places. Together with his wife and children, Jim operated 'Prays Mobil Home Park.' After the sale of the Park, Jim owned and operated with his family 'Jim and Sons of Keeseville.' Jim was known to many as a handyman, truck driver, and business man but his proudest hat to wear was family patriarch. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Crooker and his son, Jeffery Coon.
Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gail Bechard Coon; his son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Danielle Coon, son-in-law Charlie Crooker; grandchildren, Krystal Crooker, Kelly (Clem) Bell, Heather (Bryan) Douglas, Holly Coon, Justin (Taitum) Crooker, Jeffery (Courtney) Coon, Collin Fuller, and Nicholas Harrigan; 13 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, Emily, Anna, Bailey, Jace, Paysley, Hailey, Tyler, Aliva and Clemmie. Jim also leaves behind two sisters, Marge (Royce) Pombrio, Marilyn (Bob) Dumas, a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Marvin Pombro; a special cousin, Bobbby and Donna Cross and many nieces and nephews.
The family also wants to recognize the love and friendship Jim had with Bryan Hodges and his children, Richard and Ann Hodges, Lauren Epps, Jim and Carol McGiverny, Ann and Earl Garrent, Ed and Alice Pheil and Wendell and Alice Wells.
Private cremation is under the direction of Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in Lecanto, Fla. A memorial service will be held in the spring in New York.
