James's Story

James Weldon Roden (PawPaw) passed from this life to Victory in Jesus!! at 6:24 pm on November 12, 2017 at the age of 88 years 11 months. James was born December 6, 1928 on a cotton farm just outside Grandview, Texas.

James was the son of a cotton farmer, Lorzie Lee, and nurse/homemaker, Bertie Jewel Roden.
He was a beloved husband, father, grand-father, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather and has left a family legacy that will be treasured by many for decades to come. James lived almost all of his life in the Grandview area as a farmer for 46 years. He served as an elder for the Grandview church of Christ, president of the Grandview Cemetery Association, and delivered Meals On Wheels to residents in need. He was recognized in the Grandview Chamber Of Commerce, Hall Of Fame for his many years of devoted service to the Grandview community.

James is survived by his wife of 67 years Iva Nadine, his four children Randy and wife Jaime Roden of Waxahachie, Texas, Latisha and husband Ronnie Lowe of Lancaster, Texas, Dennis Roden of Fort Worth, Texas and Lee and wife Kathy Roden of Burleson, Texas. 11 Grandchildren, 17 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild. Two sisters, Brenda and husband Charles Edwards of Glen Rose, Texas and Mary and husband George Hinson of Grandview, Texas.

James was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Wilma Nell Johnson and Nina Ingle and a son James Vince Roden.

A time of celebration for James life and legacy will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Grandview church of Christ. Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clayton Kay-Vaughn Funeral Home in Grandview.

The Roden family wants to thank Mission Hospice for their help and support over the last 6 months and especially Shellea`, Alice and Richard for their help during the last hours of Dads life.
