JoAnn's Story

Text size

Watertown, CT - JoAnn A. (Parkhurst) Thrasher, 87, wife of the late Donald D. Thrasher, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2017, after a brief illness at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 22, 1930, to the late Edwin P. Parkhurst and Gladys (Murray) Parkhurst in Indiana. JoAnn graduated high school in Valley Stream, N.Y. She continued her education at Wheaton College in Illinois earning a degree in music education. She was a clarinetist, pianist, and saxophonist.
She was married to Donald Thrasher for 50 years, living first in Connecticut, where they enjoyed playing golf, before moving to Rockport, Mass. She was an involved member of the community; she was a member of the Cape Ann Symphony, Rockport Legion Band, and The First Congregational Church where she organized the Youth Choir. She was a music teacher in Gloucester's O'Malley School for a number of years. She also gave private piano, clarinet, and saxophone lessons to kids and adults alike.
JoAnn loved life; she loved spending time outside, going to Maine, traveling, photography, playing Bridge with her club, listening to and playing music, and enjoying time with her family and her grandchildren. She also, like Don, enjoyed rooting for The Red Sox and New England Patriots.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Pam Kosloski and her husband, Jim, of Watertown, Conn.; her son, Scott Thrasher and his wife, Wendy, of Madison, Maine; four grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa Kosloski of Watertown, Conn., and Benjamin and Abigail Thrasher of Madison, Maine.
