June's Story

Text size

June Kelcourse, 76, passed away on the November 3, 2017, at Mary Immaculate Nursing Center. She was born in Lynn, Mass., on May 11, 1941, the daughter of Edward and Regina (nee Comeau) Dunn.
She was educated in Lynn schools and graduated St Mary's High school in Lynn Massachusetts in 1959. She earned her RN degree at Boston City Hospital Nursing School in 1961. Her career took a slight hiatus as she became a mother in 1963 (Sue), in 1965 (Michael), and 1968 (John). As a single mom, she raised her family in southern New Hampshire and made a career as an ICU nurse at Lawrence General Hospital in the 1970s and 1980s. A life-long learner, she earned her Masters and CAS degrees in psychology at UMass Boston in 1983. She continued to work as a psychiatric nurse and RN in facilities throughout the 1980s and 1990s in the Merrimack Valley. She finished her career as caregiver working with the elderly in several area nursing homes until her retirement in 2001.
June was a study in what it means to be down-to-earth. A self-proclaimed people person, she was honest, friendly, and hadn't an ounce of pretension in her. She warmly welcomed strangers and friends alike, and could strike a conversation with anyone, be it an intellectual discourse or a ribald anecdote. She loved bingo, ice coffee, animals, and dining out. Most of all, she enjoyed giving and receiving the gift of laughter.
She is survived and happily remembered by her daughter, Suzanne Makin of Charleston, S.C.; son, Michael Makin and his wife, Pender of Scarborough, Maine; and her son, John Makin and his wife, Annie of Gold River, Calif. The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to the amazing and loving caregivers at Mary Immaculate Nursing Center and staff on 2B.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a calling hour on Saturday, December 9, from 12 until 1 p.m. with a celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home at 486 Main St., Haverhill, MA 01830.
