Mary M. Auten, 85, formerly of Dancehall Road, Milton passed away on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Watsontown Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born in Delaware Township, Northumberland County, on Nov. 11, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Isaiah and Helen (Swartz) Morgan. She was married on Sept. 5, 1953, to William D. Auten who preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2016. Mary was raised by the late Mabel Frederick.
Mary was a graduate of Milton High School and she worked for the shoe factory in Milton and Philco in Watsontown before working at American Home Foods in Milton, from which she retired. She was an active and involved member of Follmer Lutheran Church in Milton. Mary and her husband kept a vegetable garden and she enjoyed cooking and canning the produce.
She is survived by a daughter, Faye Arndt Shaffer and husband Danny, of Milton; a son, Keith Auten and wife Chris, of Montville, N.J.; five grandchildren, Ashley Stump, Adam Arndt, Tyler Auten, Meghan Auten and Lauren Auten; four great-grandchildren; and a special person that she raised, Leroy "Butch" Bruch, of Michigan.
Mary was preceded in death by three brothers, Malcolm, Paul, and Clifford Morgan; and two sisters, Naomi Beaver and Bertha Stamm.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. David E. King officiating.
Burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery in McEwensville.
