Mary Inez Phipps, 91, of Muskogee, OK, passed into the gates of Heaven on February 13, 2018. Mary was born on June 10, 1926 in Blountsville, AL to Samuel Mack Whatley and Matti (Barnett) Whatley.
Mary married her best friend and the love of her life, Lee Phipps, Jr. on February 22, 1958 in McAlester, OK at the All Saints Episcopal Church. Mary enjoyed many years as a homemaker, after her husband retired from J.C. Penney, they opened Casual Menswear in Curt's Mall where she enjoyed working along side Lee in retail for 10 years.
Mary was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, she loved taking care of the flower beds for the church and along with other Mary & Martha members, helped organize and prepare the church for member's funerals.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee Phipps, Jr.; six brothers; and three sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory, a special niece, Betty Moss and numerous other nieces and nephews; close special friends and longtime neighbors, Ed and Nancy Rivard, whom cared for Lee and Mary over the last four years.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Stay-at-Home Services and the caregivers/companions that allowed Mary to continue being at home, which was her wish. Hometown Hospice was a blessing to Mary during her last days and she received excellent care from Encompass Home Health.
Viewing will take place Thursday, February 15, 2018 between 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Bradley Belltower Chapel, 1020 W. Okmulgee, Muskogee. A celebration of life for Mary Phipps will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, February, 16, 2018 at Grace Episcopal Church with Father Bob Wickizer officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
