Richard's Story

Richard J. Kulpinski, 79, joined his Savior and beloved Helen on December 2, 2017. He was born on June 24, 1938, to William A. and Mary J. (Zieba) Kulpinski of Lawrence. At an early age, the family moved to North Andover, where he remained a resident for his lifetime. Richard cultivated his brilliant and creative mind through extensive schooling and experiences: Eagle Scout (1952); Central Catholic High School (1956); completed adjunct course work in electronics; Tufts University (1959), BS in Electrical Engineering, with participation in the NROTC; Officer in the US Navy 1959-1961, specializing in Navigation; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1963), MS in Electrical Engineering; Attended Northeastern University night courses for 3 years to master probability and communication theory. For his career, Richard worked as an Electrical Engineer at the Mitre Corporation in Bedford, Mass., with June 2017 commemorating his 54th year of invaluable work contributions. Richard was an avid wood worker, carpenter, and horticulturist. He was an Honorary Member of the North Andover Garden Club, producing the perennials for their Spring Plant Sale. Richard was exceptionally talented and driven. He strove for and achieved excellence in all he pursued and accomplished. Richard was a force of nature of the most positive kind; full of energy, unstoppable, and unforgettable. His possessed incredible strength of character and religious conviction. Generous in heart, mind, and with his time, he lived to give to and serve others. Kind, gentle, thoughtful, considerate, dependable, conscientious, thorough, and full of humor, he was truly humble about his remarkable and exceptional nature. His physical presence in our lives will be missed more than words can express. Richard is predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Kulpinski, his sister, Justine McGuire, and his sweetheart of 25 years, Helen Kellner. He is survived by his daughters Lisa M. Kulpinski and Leslie A. Lopez of North Andover; four grandchildren, Whitney Horrocks of Utah, and Ethan, Penelope, and Camille Lopez of North Andover. He also leaves much loved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, and affectioned and respected colleagues here and abroad. Please join us as we honor and celebrate Richard on Saturday, December 9, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael Church, 196 Main Street, North Andover, MA. Interment will follow at the Holy Sepulture Cemetery, Waverley Road, North Andover, MA. Calling Hours will be Friday, November 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Plonowski Funeral Home, 180 Jackson Street, Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's memory to St. Michael's Church in North Andover, MA. If you wish to send an arrangement, a modest plant arrangement that the family can cherish or donate in his name to St. Michael's Church or Steven's Memorial Library is suggested.
