Mr. Ronald William Hawkins, age 68, of Chatsworth, departed life on Tuesday, February 12, 2018. Ronald was born on January 23, 1950 in Dalton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and Maurine Hawkins and his oldest son, Ronald Shay Hawkins, of Newnan, GA.
Ronald is survived by Faye, his wife of 45 years, his youngest son and daughter-in-law, Cory and Sandi Hawkins of Chatsworth and daughter-in-law, Dalea Hawkins of Calhoun. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Aiden, Zander, Suzanna, Graciana and Samuel Hawkins, one brother, Steve Hawkins of Dalton, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ron served in the Georgia Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for basic training and served from 1971 to 1977 in Co. C, 1st Batallion - 108th Armor in Dalton, GA. His duties were of a truck and track vehicle mechanic, and he received many awards including sharp shooter. He is a member of the American Legion Post 167 of Chatsworth, a member of the Northwest Georgia Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Adult Class Teacher.
The family will be receiving family and friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. and again Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Peeples Funeral Home.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Hawkins will be held Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Cochran and Rev. Ronnie Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Jeff Brewer, Charles Davis, Jason Duncan, David Hawkins, Nathan Hawkins, and Mitchell Smith will serve as pallbearers.
Peeples Funeral Home & Crematory of Chatsworth is in charge of the arrangements.
