Virginia's Story

Proverbs 6:20-22 - My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you. Virginia Blanche Johnson Stafford, 84, of Kopperston, WV, passed away on November 11, 2017, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. She was born October 26th, 1933, in Newland, NC, to Connard Mackie and Lula Bailey Johnson. Mrs. Stafford was a devout Christian. She was a loving, caring, and devoted mother and grandmother and happily married to her husband of 44 years. She loved and cherished her brothers, sisters, and extended family. She graduated from Oceana High School, was a mother who served at Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, read her Bible daily, worked at Kopperston Grade School, became caretaker to her sister, Patricia Johnson; and later in life attended the Southern Baptist Church in Pineville, WV, where she listened to her son, Dewight, preach. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Eugene Stafford, three sisters: Narcissa Hatfield, Mildred Acord, and Patricia Johnson; and two brothers: Darrell and James Johnson. Mrs. Stafford is survived by two sons: Wayne (Debbie) Stafford of Rustburg, VA, and Dewight (Tammy) Stafford of Matheny, WV; three grandchildren: Kimberly (Ryan) Altizer of Rustburg, VA, Kristen Stafford of Lynchburg, VA, and Josh (Lauren) Stafford of Man, WV; three great-grandchildren: Sydney, Addison, and Karlee Altizer; a sister: Geneva Laxton of Portsmouth, OH; four brothers: Wayville Johnson of Bolt, WV, Connard Johnson of Aberdeen, WA, Franky Johnson of Chicago, IL, and Doyle Johnson of Crany, WV; nieces that were like daughters to her: Brenda Lovins, LaDonna Acord, Doris Reed, and Bonita Sayre; and a host of friends and church family.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Rev. Dwight Stafford and Rev. Doc Adkins officiating. She will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 11:00 AM until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the rehabilitation and care staff at Harper Mills, the nursing staff on 4 South at Raleigh General Hospital, and the staff at Bowers Hospice House for the care and kindness that was provided, and to the many friends and family who visited and prayed with Mom during her illness. Flowers are appreciated as well as donations to the building fund of the Pineville Southern Baptist Church (P.O. Box 584, Pineville, WV 24874). Well done, thy good and faithful servant. You fought a good fight and kept the faith. The family is being served by the Stafford Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.
