Michael P. Scanlon Sr., 61, of Gilford, N.H., passed away quietly in his home, September 29, 2017, with his wife of 37 years by his side.
Born February 21, 1956, in Winchester, Mass., and raised in Kingston, N.H. He graduated from Sanborn Regional High School in 1976.
Michael was a power plant engineer and worked in various power plants until he landed a job at The Gillette Company in Andover, Mass. (now known as Proctor & Gamble), where he worked his way up to supervisor of the Maintenance Department. In 2001 he was forced to retire because of bad health.
Mike followed NASCAR; he watched every race. Every year Mike planted a small vegetable garden and was proud of his pretty yard. Mike loved to vacation on the lake with our boating friends, “vacation relatives," Chris and Laurie Frysalis of Newfields, N.H.
During Mike’s travels, he touched many lives and was a loyal friend, a terrific father, and a King of a husband.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Kathy Malek Scanlon; his son, Michael P. Scanlon Jr. of Sandown and his daughter, Emily; a daughter, Lisa Scanlon Gautreau of Milton, N.H., and her husband, Chad, and their children, Miranda, Michael, Mark, Matthew (deceased) Chad Jr., and Christian; a stepson, Nicholas Hardy and his wife, Marilyn of Londonderry, and their children, Nathan and Kaitlyn.
A visitation was held on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Road, Newmarket, N.H. A Celebration of Life was held at 3:45 p.m. during the visitation.
