Mildred's Story

Text size

Mildred Livingston Kenney passed on Feb. 11, 2017, at Kenmore Mercy Hosp., Buffalo, N.Y., with loved ones at her side. She was born Jan. 19, 1924, to Robert Weibezahl Livingston and Venice Adkins Livingston in 1924. Her only sibling was Robert Livingston who passed in 2010.
Her father served as a 2nd lieutenant in World War I and died when she was a child. He was a descendent of the historically important Livingston family (Philip Livingston signed the Declaration of Independence).
Like her parents, she was well-educated. She graduated with honors from Syracuse U. She was a French teacher and then became librarian at the Black Watch Memorial library (1979-1989) where her mother had also been librarian. She loved to read and many patrons became friends. She also enjoyed travel, nature, and good conversation. She loved the home her grandparents had built and which remained in the family for a century. She worked hard as caregiver to her mother, raising her youngest daughter and maintaining the family home on Mt Hope Avenue. Her gentleness, independence, charm and intelligence always made me so proud to be her daughter(Lisa Kenney DO).
She is survived by Karen Abbott (daughter), Tracy Fredericksen (grandaughter) and two great-grandchildren of Houston, Texas.
Committal service will be held October 14th at 10:30 a.m. at Mt Hope Cemetery. Those who knew "Mimsy" are welcome.
